I have 20 prints of the image below at 8”x12”  (can’t crop to 8×10 because we’d lose some kids).  I got a good deal on the prints so I’m selling them at $5.00 each.  If you’ve already purchased one of these at 4×6 I will be giving you an 8×12 so don’t worry about ordering unless you want another one.   Just email me with Shadowlawn Kids in the subject line and let me know how many you’d like.

The sun’s setting earlier now so the Gallery isn’t as large as usual. This is the last Wednesday night for the Shadowlawn Surf Club, next week it moves to Friday, I plan on being on the beach.  I should have all orders filled this week, or early next week.

Friday morning before I headed home from vacation, I attempted to shoot some sunrise photos. Including a few with a couple of kids from Kentucky being my unknowing subjects.  A few of the shots appear multiple times, some with different amounts of saturation, grain , etc… my attempt at being creative.

I spent most of the day trying to shoot the pro heats on the south beach, with an occasional shot of the am’s on the north beach. Another long hot day in the sun, until the thunderstorm threat delayed the finals for about an hour or so. 

I was most impressed with Phillip Goold making the finals in the semi pro and semi finals in the pro division, the kid is pure class, and given some better surf, or set waves,  in the semi’s and finals could have easily taken both divisions. Another surfer who was putting on an amazing show was Jadson Andre who came in 2nd in the men’s pro final. After being called for interference in the semi’s and still taking 2nd to advance he was on fire. In my opinion Andre lost because winner Aaron Cormican beat him mentally by taking him off his game, he could have easily won it all and I believe Cormican knew this and used his experience to his advantage.

It was almost like Shadowlawn Surf Club night…but a little less crowded in the water!

I don’t know why I even bother showing up in the morning, the pictures always blow due to the light and my inability to get in focus. I did wear a hat today so my head isn’t feeling like a torch.  Anyway I shot all day, there are two seperate, the ECSC gallery and the ECSC SUPER GROM gallery.

One of my all-time favorite bands played on the beach and I didn’t have to sneak my camera in like I did at the Boathouse back in 1987!  Since I didn’t use a flash and the lighting was nowhere near as good as it is at the amphitheater the shots aren’t all that great…but it was a great show and fun to shoot!

Caught up with Dallas again was headed to the Pier to do an afternoon session, but found another spot that was breaking pretty close to shore and pretty hollow, with Dallas, Will Skudin, Bret Barley, Joey Chesire and Prescott (can’t remember his last name) all enjoying some uncrowded peaks with Pullen shooting from the water.

Today I waited until the light was a bit better before I spent another 3 or 4 hours getting baked…and it was hotter today than yesterday.  Caught up with Mickey McCarthy at the pier and shot for a while, until I couldn’t stand being in the sun any longer.  Click on the photo below of Fisher Heverly to see the gallery from this session…

Luckily our rental home is just south of the Pier. I was watching the surf since just before sunrise and was about to go check S-turns and Boilers until I saw a few guys starting to get barrelled by the pier. So I walked down there and shot for most of the day… I picked up the camera again around dinner time and shot from the deck of the house when I saw Fisher Heverly and a few other guys walking down the beach…those shots are at the end of the gallery.  To see the entire days photos click on the photo of Dallas Tolson below (huge gallery alert)

After spending the entire day trying to find Bill a board to replace the one some jackass stole from under our rental house, I finally caught up with Todd and Steve….click on the image below to see the entire (small) Gallery.

Never had to get in the car, turns out this was the spot to be…shot all day til the Battery died.  Photos will be posted as soon as I can find a reliable internet connection, Hopefully Tuesday sometime…but right now it still looks like we’re going to have some swell tomorrow.

I have very limited internet access at the moment so I can’t post pictures yet…. 

Surf in Rodanthe is  easily in the Chest high + range with a pretty steady offshore wind on it. It looks a bit smaller now (6:45) than it did about an hour ago. Correction…the sets are still big…just witnessed a couple of guys getting barrelled near the pier one guy got covered up twice on the same wave…the crowds are starting to appear so find your spot.

If it’s anything like Yesterday I’d expect it to get better around noon-1pm with the tide change.  I think I’m going to check out some of the more popular spots and probably shoot from one of them.

 I right now have 2 sets of shots to post from the past weekend…I’ll hopefully have these up tonight or tomorrow.

1) is last Saturday’s Outer Banks ESA contest at the Frisco Bathouse

2) is a small gallery of shots of Todd Pace and Steve Owens from  an uncrowded break a little bit south of where I’m currently staying, that spot right now looks to have some size to it, although not as clean as yesterday afternoon.

Stolen board – 9’4” hotline – yellow bottom w/yellow rails – stolen last night in rodanthe- if you see this board call me 757-425-2188.

Some idiot jacked my friends board from underneath out rental house sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning. They tried getting into the cars but all but one was locked, the unlocked one had nothing in it so they struck out there.  I have a feeling this is some local group who hunt around on check-in night for things to steal. We know that other cars were broken into and stuff stolen.  If anyone at any of the shops sees this board please let me know.
