So the sun broke through this afternoon and I was able to shoot some surf at 1st street for the first time since I think October. Even though I only planned on shooting for about a half hour, I ended up staying for a while…the uneditted results can be found by clicking on the image below.

I showed up around 3pm , and from what I’m told I was just in time for the cleaning up. So I started shooting the free surfing as well as some of the VA ESA contest. Check out the gallery by clicking on the image below, and also check out John Wilson’s photos from the same day by clicking here http://johnwilsonphotography.smugmug.com/

So I was feeling a little under the weather today and decided to spend the day on the beach in Rodanthe shooting the 1st annual WRV Battle of the Banks, or was it the Rodanthe Pipe Masters?…dunno either way, after the sun got good the photos started to get a little better.  After the contest was over, I headed back into town and shot for a little bit in KDH while I had a little bit of sunlight to work with.

Finally fixed the software issue, so here are the shots from Sunday the 28th, with a few from Saturday the 27th Neptune contest.
Conditions for shooting pretty much sucked, I have not done any post editting on these shots, they are straight out of the camera.

Here they are, a few days late shots from Sept 1st 2008 Labor day down south on Hatteras Island. If you were there, you know where we were. I’ll be leaving for California on Saturday morning, so the surf should be good at least thru the 14th

Here’s a small gallery of surfing photos taken at 1st street on August 14th just before sunset…Thanks Jeff for reminding me.

Ok, I shot waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many photos so they are broken down into 5 different galleries and seperated them by the time on the images, with the exception of the Pro Finals and the Life Rolls On Expression Session shots which are in their own gallery…my camera is off by an hour but I’m pretty sure everything is in order.Â
I was shooting from the south beach (jetty area) most of the morning, but I was able to get some shots of some of the North Beach action, and even managed to get some shots of the award presentations.
To view the galleries click on the images below for the specific galleries that you wish to view.

First up are the SUPER GROMS. I tried to get as many of them as I could but it’s just not possible. I haven’t looked at any of the images yet so there’s a good chance some our out of focus or over/under exposed…sorry, I just wanted to get them up a.s.a.p.

August 23rd 2008 ECSC ‘non-super grom’ photos…again, I haven’t even looked at them so some are probably out of focus and many are probably not exposed correctly, because editting takes time and I didn’t bring any sunscreen with me today…’you figure it out’

enjoy, jw
We’ll be here.
Tickets are booked and joining me on the trip will be Brad Styron and John Barnes for a week in Southern California. If any other East Coasters are planning on being out there, let Brad or Myself know if you’re interested in a Left Coast photo session. Â
Due to the fact that I don’t bounce, this is a small gallery from the afternoon of July 13th at 1st street. My wrist was hurting so much it hurt to push the button on the camera. This is gonna be one fun flight to L.A. tomorrow. I’ll be back on the 20th…so I won’t be at the Shadowlawn Surf Club on Wednesday night.
Anyway, click on the shot below to see what I did shoot today.
So, I woke up this morning around 7:30…
…anyway, around noon, the light was looking ok, so I decided to go check out the surf before heading to Ocean Breeze park. Ran into Sean Knight who told me it was looking good and Joel Tudor was on his way.
Took about 450 shots until it was time to go get some sunscreen and food, then returned a little after 5 for another session. This gallery has about 650 shots in it. Click on the image of Joel Tudor below to view the entire gallery.
Again, word on the street was it was better in Va Beach than in town in the Outer Banks. At this point I’m leaning heavily towards staying in town in VB on Saturday and I’ll document the local crowd scenes. If I start getting reports that it’s ‘BETTER’ down south I’ll consider driving down later on Saturday and shoot Sat. night and Sunday.
Again, in my rush to get these pictures posted, I hosed up the file names on these shots so ignore the June 14 on the file name, I know I’m going to…besides, it’s not hurting anything.

Thursday night I was waiting for the novacaine in my mouth to wear off and I decided to bike down to 1st street without my camera. So I hung out for a couple of hours watching and it appeared to be getting better, crowded as all hell but still looked real good especially on the sets.  I had reports from three credible sources that spots on the Outer Banks were showing signs of swell but nothing special.
This morning I woke up at 5 to check it out and tried taking a couple of shots but the light wasn’t cooperating, and I wasn’t about to go out on the jetty again. The sets still look good, and I’m hoping that this afternoon has some good light. I plan on staying in Va Beach on Friday and possibly heading south for Saturday and Sunday to shoot. But if it’s good here, I may just stay in VB and check out some of those other locations that have been breaking lately….stay tuned
Here’s a sunrise shot from Friday July 11, 2008

Here are some more shots from the day I got busted on the Jetty in all their overexposed no long lens glory. The image files say June 14th, that’s an error on my part, but it’s my site and I’ll not be concerned with such nonsense tonight. Anyway, they’re all at the front of the original May 14 gallery or you can click on the image below to see the entire gallery and tell Tyler to call off the hitman!
Another fun Wednesday night at 1st street with the kids- the sun even made an appearance.

First ‘official’ Shadowlawn Surf Club night of 2008….weather was on the cool side, surf was pretty much non existent, but still a great evening on the beach with a pretty big turnout. See ya next Wednesday.

The 3rd annual Zeke’s Lil Rat Surfcus was held on Saturday June 14th in the smoke filled air at 1st Street in Va Beach. Lighting was terrible for most of the day and since I still haven’t paid the last ticket I got for being on the Jetty, I decided I wasn’t going to push my luck today.
Click on the image below to see the entire gallery, and I have no clue why the shots are out of order…sorry
